When I was 75 miles south of here last month, I hiked the Finger Lakes Trail for a short while. The Finger Lakes Trail is an east-west trail that bisects New York State, and eventually hooks up with the Appalachian Trail near the Catskill Mountains.
We're high up, and the trail is steep. It skirts the edge of the hill.
Beautiful autumn day. Beautiful vistas on the hill.
Someone brought a lone bench out here.
We eventually move away from the hillside and into the forest.
Gotta be careful where you walk because the trail is covered by fallen leaves.
But you probably wouldn't get lost because the distant hills are a great landmark.
Look up and you see the barren forest canopy.
We eventually hit another hill. Looks steep.
The trail heads partway down the hillside as we descend further and further into the forest.
Occasionally we hit small clearings where late-season green still blooms.
Everything is still on this day when summer warmth meets winter desolation.
The forest is deep. Strangely cavernous. It holds secrets.
